This is the part 2 of basic civil engineer knowledge question .This all question is important for exam and interview purpose.
(1) Definition of a cantilever beam?
=> It is fixed in wall or column at one end and one end is free. It has tension zone in the top side and the compression zone in the bottom side. The maximum moment create at the support and the zero moment create at the free end.
(2) Longitudinal reinforcement not less than .8% and not more than 6% of gross cross-section area.
(3) Main bars in the slab shall not be less than 8mm and the distribution bar not less than 8mm and the not more then 1/ 8 of slab thickness.
(4) Water absorption of bricks should not be more than 15%.
(5) Compressive strength of bricks 3.5 N / MM^2 .
(6) Curing time of RCC column :-
(a) Super sulphate cement => 7 days
(b) Ordinary Portland cement => 10 days
(c) Minerals & Admixtures added cement => 14 days
(7) RCC shuttering time of different RCC members :-
RCC Member De-Shuttering time
(a) For column , wall , vertical from works 16 - 24 hrs.
(b) Slab 3 days
(c) Beam 7 days
(d) Beam spanning up to 4.5 m 7 days
(e) Beam spanning over 4.5 m 14 days
(f) Arches spanning up to 6 m 14 days
(g) Arches spanning over 6 m 21 days
(8) What is crank length in the slab?
=> The crank length in the slab is .42D.
D = Depth of slab - top cover - bottom cover
(9) What do you mean by honey comb in the concrete?
=> Honey comb is also know is Air-pocket and nothing but the air voids in the concrete. It is usually formed during concrete casting.
(10) What are the common methods of curing the concrete?
> Spraying the water.
> Wet covering of the surface.
> Ponding.
> Application of curing chemicals.
> Steam curing.
(11) What are the bleeding in the concrete?
=> Bleeding is also known as Segregation. where water come out to the surface from the concrete. Being lowest specific gravity among all the ingredients of concrete.
(12) When we need pile foundation?
=> Pile foundation is adopted when the soil bearing capacity is less than 24 kn / m^2.
(13) What is Grouting?
=> Grout is a fluid for concrete. which is used to fill the voids.
(14) What is Guniting ?
=> In this take a mixture of cement and sand. the ratio is 1 : 3 and take a cement gun in which fill the cement and do pressure of 2 to 3 kg / cm^2 . It is highly effective process for repairing damaged surface and wall.
(15) Minimum % of steel as per IS code.
(a) For Column = .8% of cross section area of column
(b) For Beam = .85bd/fy of - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - -
(c) For slab = .12% - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
(16) Maximum % of steel as per IS code.
(a) For Column = 6% of cross section area of column
(b) For Beam = 4% of - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - -
(c) For slab = 4% of - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
(17) The density of steel is 78.5 kn / m^3.
(18) Unit weight :-
(a) Unit weight of pcc = 24kn/m^3
(b) Unit weight of Rcc = 25 kn/m^3
(c) Unit weight of bricks = 16-19 kn / m^3
(d) Unit weight of concrete block = 19-20 kn / m^3
(19) Grade of cement 33, 43 , 53 .
(20) Grade of steel Fe- 415 , Fe 500 .
